Terri Gardner-MeadowTreeShetland

Class Level: Spinning experience required

This is a creative class that will explore different blending and spinning ideas to emphasis natural colored fibers. The basic fiber used for the class is Shetland wool. Class activities are divided in three categories: 100% natural colored yarn, color/value added yarn, and color/texture added yarn.

Technical aspects of yarn design are also addressed. Twist, grist, and yardage per pound will be analyzed. Students will use the McMorran balance.

Terri Gardner-MeadowTreeShetland

Combining Designing and Knitting-Advance Knitting Class

Learn to design with tessellations. A tessellation is a design or shape that repeats without any gap or overlap. This little geometry trick was made famous by the artist M.C. Escher.

This is a two part class. In section I students will learn how to create simple and knittable tessellations. The tessellation type we will be creating is categorized as a “slide”.

In the second half of class the tessellation patterns will be translated to knitter's graph paper. The knitting technique of Intarsia will be learned (or reviewed), Students will then translate their tessellated pattern in a knitted swatch.
